Code of Practice

Aim

To create a generic Code of Practice for staff teams working with individuals and groups of young people.

Learning Objectives

  • To have an understanding of the importance of a Code of Practice
  • To explore the content and implementation of a Code of Practice

This session continues with the theme of relationships and is focused around the active participation of all staff in the exploration of issues concerned with a Code of Practice and their approach to working with young people. These Codes of Practice can help to develop the working relationships between teams, their members and learners. After the sessions have been completed the results of the activities will be collated, reproduced and shared with all participants with a view to the development of their own Code of Practice.

The creation of a Code of Practice is not about being restrictive or being in control. It is about workers establishing and sharing good practice in their work with young people. There are key benefits in creating a Code of Practice and these will impact on learners, staff and the College as a whole. Benefits include:

  • Having clarity and consistency in working practice for staff and learners.
  • Additional or external staff attending and participating in sessions can become familiarised with current practice.
